Not broken, just due a check-up

Mental Health MOT

We service our cars and see the dentist for check-ups, but rarely stop to check in on how we're really doing. A Mental Health MOT is one structured session to take stock of your wellbeing, notice what's helping and what's wearing you down, and leave with a simple plan for looking after yourself.

  • One 80-minute session
  • £90
  • Online or by phone
  • No ongoing commitment

Who it's for

You don't need to be struggling to book an MOT. It may suit you if:

  • you're feeling stretched, stressed or not quite yourself, and want to understand why
  • you're going through a change, such as a new job, a relationship ending, children leaving home or retiring, and want space to take stock
  • you've had counselling before and would like a check-in
  • you're curious about counselling but not ready to commit to regular sessions
  • you're doing fine and want to look after your mental health the way you look after your physical health

What an MOT isn't

A Mental Health MOT isn't a diagnosis, a medical assessment or a crisis service. If you'd like a diagnosis or have questions about medication, your GP is the right place to start.

If you're struggling to keep yourself safe, please don't wait. Use the crisis contacts on my home page, call 999 or go to your nearest A&E.

How it works

Four simple steps, all online or by phone.

1. A free first chat

We start with a free 20-minute chat, so you can ask anything and we can check an MOT is right for you. If it is, we'll book a time.

2. Before we meet

I'll email you a few questions to think about: sleep, energy, stress, mood, relationships, work and what's going well. There are no right answers, and you don't need to send me anything. Just bring your thoughts.

3. Your MOT session

For the first hour, by video or by phone, we look at each area of your life together: what's working, what's draining you and any patterns that keep coming up.

4. Your plan

In the last 20 minutes, we talk through what's come up and write your plan together: a few practical steps to try, things to keep doing and early signs to look out for. It's in your own words, so it's yours to keep.

What you'll leave with

  • a clearer picture of how you're really doing
  • one or two practical ideas to try straight away
  • a simple, personal plan for looking after your wellbeing
  • an honest conversation about whether more support might help, whether that's counselling with me, support elsewhere or a chat with your GP

After your MOT

There's no commitment to anything more. Afterwards, you can:

  • leave it there, with your plan
  • book a review MOT in three to six months, to see how things have moved on
  • carry on with regular counselling, if you'd like to go further
